The duo were convicted of crimes by the High Court on Tuesday and have been slapped with huge fines

An Accra High Court on Tuesday has found Ghana Football Association General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo and Division One League Board Member Sheikh Tophic Sienu guilty for contempt of court following their comments on radio and social media in a case involving the Football Association and demoted Ashanti Gold FC.

The duo, Addo and Tophic, were charged on the grounds of contempt and and fined 2000 and 1000 penalty units which equalled GHC 24,000 and 12,000 cedis respectively and in default, a 14-day imprisonment in both cases would take effect.

However, the judge sitting on the case in court acquitted and discharged a total number of 12 other defendants from Ghana FA which were led by the president Kurt E.S Okraku.

The court insisted that unlike the others, Prosper Harrison Addo (in his personal capacity) and Sheikh Tophic Abdul-Kadir Sienu were liable for comments made in interviews and on Facebook, respectively.

The contempt case filed against the Executive Council Members of the GFA was by Ashanti Gold FC for commencing the 2022/2023 Betpawa Premier League despite an interlocutory injunction.

The Obuasi-based club argued that they were unfairly demoted to Division Two for an alleged match fixing scandal with Inter Allies and were praying for the Executive Council Members to be imprisoned for what they describe as disregard for the dignity, respect, and authority of the court.

The case will continue later with final hearing expected and AshesGyamera.com promises to bring you all the latest updates in the offing.

The Ashanti Gold chiefs have been handed a ten-year ban each following their involvement in match fixing scandal last season

Ashanti Gold president Kwaku Frimpong and chief executive officer Emmanuel Frimpong has been banned ten years each from football by Ghana FA following their involvement in a match fixing scandal.

Last season, Ashanti Gold thrashed Inter Allies 7-0 with defender Hasmin Musa scoring two own goals in the process.

After the game, Musa revealed that he scored the own goals to destroy a correct scoreline that was arranged ahead of kick off.

Although, Kwaku Frimpong and his son Emmanuel Frimpong initially rejected accusations of their involvement in the match fixing scandal, several evidences have been retrieved including phone calls and exchange of money.

Dr. Kwaku Frimpong, President of Ashantigold SC was charged for breaching Article 27(1)(2) of the GFA Code of Ethics 2019; Article 18(1) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, and Article 34(5)(a)(b) of the GFA Premier League Regulations 2019.

Article 34(5)(b) Premier League Regulations,2019, states:
“for the avoidance of doubt it shall be a misconduct for any club, club official or a player or any participant of a match to offer or to attempt to offer either directly or indirectly any consideration whatsoever to another club, or a player or to any match official, with a view to
influencing the results of any match for any club to play a match in a
non competitive spirit for the purpose of this rule the determination of
the competitiveness or otherwise of a match shall be done by the GFA

Article 18(1) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019 states:

football related activity as well as a fine of at least ghc100,000. In
serious cases a longer ban period, including a potential lifetime ban on
taking part in any football related activity shall be imposed”.

Article 27(1) of the GFA Code of Ethics, 2019 states:
“Persons bound by this Code shall not accept, give, offer, promise,
receive, request or solicit any personal or undue pecuniary or other
advantage in order to obtain or retain business or any other improper
advantage to or from anyone within or outside GFA. Such acts are

Article 27(2) of the GFA Code of Ethics, 2019 states:
“persons bound by this code shall refrain from any activity or behavior that might give rise to the appearance or suspicion of a breach of this article”

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Kwaku Frimpong is speaking to his lawyers and advisers after the ruling and could hit back in a grand style.

It is reported that he could mention other top officials who are hugely involved in match fixing that he believes Ghana FA are only trying to protect.

The football association has been advised to sack the Serbian coach less than five months after he was appointed the country’s coach

Ghana Football Association has been advised by Ghana government through the ministry of Youth and Sports to sack Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac after only five months in charge.

The 68-year-old took over from Charles Kwabena Akonnor in September last year with the task of qualifying Ghana to 2022 Fifa World Cup and winning the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

However, things have not gone as planned with the Black Stars kicked out of the group stage of the Afcon. Surprisingly, Ghana who were rated as one of the favorites to win the title lost to Morocco and minnows Comoros and could only draw with Gabon as they bowed out of the tournament with just a point – their worst ever performance in the competition.

As a result, an emergency meeting was held on Friday, January 21 in Accra between the top hierarchy of Ghana FA and representatives of government led by Ussif Mustapha, Minister of Youth and Sports.

The ministry made it categorically clear to the FA that Ghanaians have lost faith in the Serbian coach, therefore, his appointment must be reviewed.

Also, the ministry advised Ghana FA to dissolve the Black Stars management committee and reconstitute it.

Ghana will return to action in March in the final qualifying round of the 2022 Fifa World Cup.

According to AshesGyamera’s sources, Ghana FA would have to pay Milovan Rajevac $270,000 as compensation if sacked plus $130,000 as signing fee, making it $400,000.

The former Berekum Chelsea chief believes the Serbian coach must be given another opportunity despite failing woefully at the Afcon

Ghana Football Association executive council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has insisted that Milovan Rajevac is the best man to coach the Black Stars despite the poor performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations ongoing in Cameroon.

The Black Stars were kicked out from the tournament in the group stage after losing to Morocco and minnows Comoros as well as drawing against Gabon.

Although, a large section of Ghanaians believe Milovan must be sacked and a Ghanaian appointed as the interim coach to handle the Black Stars, Sarfo believes no Ghanaian has the requisite knowledge to manage the team at this point.

Former coach Kwesi Appiah, Ibrahim Tanko, Sellas Tetteh among others are currently available.

“We had a Ghanaian coach sometime back and what was the results..? Sometimes, he asked the management members to help him in players selection,” Oduro Sarfo told Cape Coast-based Darling FM in an interview.

“I know the GFA President is eager to equip coaches. It is not official yet but he [GFA Boss] is planning to send some coaches outside for attachment, until then, no local coach is ready to handle the Black Stars. No Ghanaian coach can handle the Black Stars now,” he added.

The Black Stars arrived in the country at dawn of Thursday and nicodemusly went into their homes since they hugely disappointed Ghanaians.

Ghana will return to international duties in March as they await their opponents for the final round of 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

The winner after the two legs will automatically qualify to the World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

The football association boss has rejected suggestions that he should vacate his position after the Black Stars disappointing display at the Afcon

Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has insisted that he will not resign from his position despite call from a section of Ghanaians.

The FA boss has come under intense pressure after Ghana failed to progress from their group at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. The Black Stars picked just a point as they were defeated by minnows Comoros as well as Morocco and could only pick a draw against Gabon.

The results means that Ghana experienced their worse ever Afcon participation since 1963.

“I don’t think it [resignation] is a topic that we should discuss,” Kurt Okraku told Asempa FM.

“In 2006, we exited at the group phase and we never called for the heads of the people in charge.

“We have played in two finals and after failing to win the trophy nobody called for the exit of people.

“I know people are angry by the performance of the team but I don’t think asking me to resign is the right thing but we have to stick together and fix the situation,” he added.

Okraku was elected as Ghana FA president in 2019 to replace Kwesi Nyantakyi who was banned from football after being found guilty of bribery and corruption following an investigation by undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

South Africa international Rushine De Reuck has insisted that Senegalese referee Ndiaye and the players of Ghana had a rehearsal on how to cheat them following the 1-0 defeat in Fifa World Cup qualifiers on Sunday.

With South Africa needing just a draw to top Group G, Bafana Bafana were undone by a 33rd minute penalty after De Reuck was adjudged to have fouled Daniel Amartey in the box.

Ghana captain Andre Ayew stepped up and sent the resulting kick into the net. The goal proved to be the only effort Ghanaians needed to qualify ahead of the South Africans..

However, after the game, a lot of commentaries have been heard about the referee’s performance and South Africa Football Association believes the match officials were manipulated. As a result, they have officially lodged a compliant at Caf and Fifa seeking for a redress.

“It was a big game and we knew what it would mean for the country, and we were ready playing against the best in the world,” De Reuck said at the press conference.

“But I felt the opportunity to get a good result was taken away. The decision that were made, it felt like the game was rehearsed – from the referees and the ball boys. The first 10 minutes we already saw that we were not going to get anything right. We continued to fight,” he added.

Meanwhile, a private video investigator was hired by SAFA to critically analyse the game and he concluded that 91 per cent of the referee’s decisions were in accurate especially in the first half.

“I used 5 hours and 17 minutes to review the first half because this was where all the alleged manipulation happened. I kept pausing the video and then go back for a replay,” the independent investigator for SAFA

“There were only five incorrect decisions in the second half so I spent a little over two hours to review the game in that half. I enjoyed watching football in the second half because the referee allowed the match to flow,” he added.
